PassRate includes the full DVSA competency framework — the same categories and skills that examiners assess on the practical driving test.
The Competency Grid
Open any pupil and click Competencies. You will see categories like "Controls & Legal", "Junctions", and "Manoeuvres", each containing individual skills. The grid is grouped by category for easy scanning.
Three Status Levels
Each skill has one of three statuses:
- Not Assessed — The default. You have not yet evaluated this skill.
- Developing — The pupil is working on it but not yet consistent.
- Competent — The pupil performs this skill consistently and safely.
Click any skill to cycle through the statuses. The change is saved instantly via HTMX — no page reload.
Readiness Score
The readiness score at the top of the grid is the percentage of assessed skills marked as Competent. A score above 85% generally indicates test-readiness, but always use your professional judgement.
Per-Lesson Competency Updates
On each lesson detail page, you can toggle which competencies were practiced during that lesson. This builds a history of what was covered when — useful for showing pupils their progress over time.
